In the wilds of Alaska, near the Eskimos lives adventuress Jean Williams, who is gathering material for her future novel. The local community is threatened by a wolf pack led by the wild dog Swift Lightning. The inhabitants begin to move to other places because of the lack of meat, and the protagonist goes to Nenana together with the hunter Gaston.
